Safe diagnostic triage
Sprinkler zone won't shut off?
This symptom does not identify a valve model or prove that a diaphragm needs replacing.
First: control the water safely
If water is causing damage, use the known irrigation isolation valve if you can operate it safely. If the shutoff is stuck, unfamiliar or shared with a protective device, call a qualified professional. Turn the controller off; do not assume this alone has stopped the water.
If flow stops when the controller is off
Record the controller's schedule and any manual watering setting. The issue may involve control settings or electrical operation. A symptom alone cannot select a solenoid.
If flow continues
Possible causes include a manually open valve, a bleed setting, debris, internal damage or other water-path problems. Isolate water and controller power before any opening. Follow the exact OEM instructions rather than a generic repair sequence.
When to stop
Cracked bodies, unknown pressure, pumps, unsafe wiring, drinking-water or reclaimed-water concerns and uncertain backflow protection require professional review. Never bypass or remove protective equipment.
Find the model before looking for a part
Record the valve's brand, full model, top style, generation and requested assembly. The finder checks evidence; it does not diagnose which part has failed.
